Winton’s newest councillor, Tina Elliott is stepping into her new role with Winton Shire Council.
She was the clear winner in the recent by-election to fill the vacancy created when Gavin Baskett stood down as a Councillor to stand and be elected Mayor at the end of 2017.
Mayor Baskett replaces Butch Lenton in the role after his passing in October last year.
Ms Elliott takes her seat at the Council table with a by-election result that saw her receive 36.2 % of the vote.
She now joins Councillors Joel Mann, Shane ‘Boo’ Mann, Judy Sale and Travis Harbour, and Mayor Gavin Baskett.
Tina is a grazier and active community representative who now spends her weeks in the Winton Township, so her son can attend the local school.
She says she’s a “true blue” Wintonite, growing up with parents who named her after the river they lived alongside- the Diamantina.
And she says she takes on the role to see the region prosper.
“I see families leaving town and I want to do what I can to change that and keep jobs in our community.”
