Significant rainfall in Central Western Queensland has brought a batch of unexpected residents to Longreach in the form of some inconvenienced truck drivers.
Road damage to the Landsborough Highway and flooding in Winton forced the closure of the highway between Longreach and Winton between Monday and Thursday leaving drivers already on route with no choice but to pull up in Longreach.
The town residents are certainly not complaining about the much needed rainfall and the town was quite happy to accommodate the drivers who enjoyed the hospitality of the outback town.
Rigs occupied the bitumen truck stops in three separate Longreach locations, opposite a service station and two truck stops west towards the Thomson River.
The rain has decreased, and the roads have now been sufficiently repaired to allow the truck drivers to continue with their freight to Northern Australia.
Officers from the Longreach Major and Organised Crime Squad Rural are urging the public to drive to the conditions, particularly on unsealed roads and not to remember if it’s flooded, forget it.
